This Adventure in Business

If you have read our “about page” you have a brief glimpse into how and why we started upon this adventure.

This adventure has tested our resilience, forced us to learn new skills, demanded late nights, early starts, time away from our families and friends, and taught us most of all patience.

The start of this 25 month journey was facilitated by Melissa knocking on the door of the property we thought most suitable and meeting the requirements the municipality had already set out for a cannabis business. A few months later the purchase completed and we went on to the next phase of the adventure, getting approval from the municipality. We came up with a business plan and applied to the municipality for a variance on the property. This process required a few council hearings and one public hearing where approximately 100 people came, mostly in support of us.The public hearing  was a special and overwhelming moment for all of us and one that will never be forgotten in particular because I was a week from my due date and Melissa publicly announced her pregnancy on top of getting our variance with some conditions to meet of course. With municipal approval we could finally apply at the provincial level.

This application is not for the faint of heart, we went through extensive security checks, financial screening and a few other big hoops. We got our Approval in Principle after 9 months (our other baby lol) right before the pandemic hit, not knowing what this meant especially in a resort where we rely on tourism and everything was shutting down left right and centre, we made the hard decision to delay renovations on the location until we knew if the resort would re-open.

The resort opened for the summer and we decided we would take the leap and start renovations in the fall. Next step was getting our final license and we passed with flying colours! You would think this would be the end of it here , but we really just had a layover to another flight in the adventure in business.

For the last two months we have been lining up providers, getting a bank account (this is not easy if you mention the words cannabis), insurance etc. could all finally be taken care of now that we were approved. Yesterday marked a huge day as we got our first inventory shipment and we got everything into our computer system.

As we are only a few days from opening I reflect on this journey that is still evolving and have so much gratitude for our partners, our families and our community. Many tears, laughs and tough times have been had but I am happy to say I wouldn’t have done it any other way with any other crew.

Thank you to all who have supported, loved and helped us along the way. Looking forward to flying high with all of you!”
