What happens in Sun Peaks for 4/20

Does anything happen for 4/20 in Sun Peaks Resort? In this authors experience not much has ever happened in Sun Peaks during 4/20. Many of the residents and seasonal workers take this time to get off the mountain after a busy winter. Flight Deck Cannabis Co. wishes they could throw a huge party, however there are a ton of Provincial and Federal Regulations that prohibit us from filling up the store with smoke and having a celebration. So gather a few friends and create your own party!

4/20 History

According to Chris Conrad, curator of the Oaksterdam Cannabis Museum in Oakland, California, 420 started as a secret code among high schoolers in the early 1970s. A group of friends at San Rafael High School in Marin County, California, who called themselves “the Waldos,” would often meet at 4:20 p.m. to get high.

The story of the Waldos was popularized by the legendary High Times and the first mention of 4:20 smoking and a 4/20 holiday was in a May 1991 issue and wrongly pointed to the origin of the term being a police code. Since then many other versions of how 4/20 became about have been common. The connection to the Waldos was mentioned ina 1998 December issue of High Times. 

It’s quick spread is given credit to Grateful Dead followers after one of the Waldos became a roadie for the Grateful Dead- and called for 4:20pm to be the official time to share some cannabliss.
